Abstract

Purpose :
It was to aim how effectively vergence system of many other ocular functions could predict eye-hand coordination, which eventually provided some knowledges for the visual perception, therapy and rehabilitation.
Methods : Heterophoria, convergence and divergence reserve at near and far and accommodative convergence ratio (AC/A) were measured by von Graefe methods for 33 subjects who had over 0.8 visual acuity in correction. Purdue pegboard (Purdue AS), concentration grid, dynavision (D2) carried frequently by Occupational therapist were administered to evaluate their visual perception and motor function for this study.
Results : Purdue AS was highly correlated with AC/A for subjects with esophoria at near, while Purdue AS was highly correlated with convergence reserve at far for subjects with exophoria at near(r=-0.59 and r=0.41, respectively). D2 test showed the highest correlation with divergence reserve at near for 8 subjects who scored over the average in three tests, i.e. Purdue AS, Concentration grid, D2 (r=0.77). Purdue AS was also good correlated with AC/A and with convergence reserve at near as well(r=-0.76 and r=0.41, respectively).
Conclusions : It showed that AC/A was relatively crucial for eye-hand coordination. Considering the art of heterophoria for each individual and the various tests for visual perception and motor function, it is recommended to design the appropriate plan for visual rehabilitation.
